I was just required to renew 4 of my 18 domains, all of which must be renewed on a yearly basis. One of the four was a .CO domain. GoDaddy wanted to charge me $30 for the renewal of the .CO domain, but I was able to find the following code to save 30% on that individual domain:
That saved me an additional $12. Not bad. Total cost for 4 domains was $55. Avg. cost of $13.75 per domain. Meh. A good average is somewhere between $9 and $10. GoDaddy seems to be getting more expensive… but it’s still the most simple to manipulate and updates to DNS occur extremely quickly.
There was a lot of talk over the last year about the mass exodus of customers from GoDaddy when they first SUPPORTED, then ambiguously said “they didn’t support” and finally said they outrightly OPPOSED the SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) Legislation brought about by U.S. Representative Lamar S. Smith (R-TX), to expand the ability of U.S. law enforcement to fight online trafficking in copyrighted property and goods. Unfortunately, the law was over-reaching and was viewed as far too invasive and would likely violate First Amendment rights to the length of mass censorship.
Did I start moving my 18 domains elsewhere when this happened? No. Did I care? Sure… but GoDaddy made sure to get on the proper side of the argument and smoothed things out as best they could. Plus, I didn’t want to go back to paying $35 per domain to Network Solutions.
